The brief
The test manuscript is a quiet literary mystery with short chapters, dialogue, scene breaks, italics, and back matter. The 5 x 8 trim creates a compact trade page and makes line-breaking quality visible. Classic Serif uses an understated hierarchy so the chapter rhythm and body text carry the reading experience.
The sample is deliberately long enough to exercise ordinary pages, chapter transitions, blank-page decisions, navigation, and a realistic page count. It is not a customer book and has never been offered for sale.
What to inspect
In the PDF, compare chapter-opening pages with ordinary pages, check that running heads disappear where appropriate, and follow the page numbers across left and right pages. Look for isolated lines, stacked hyphens, and abrupt changes in word spacing.
In the EPUB, open navigation, resize the type, and confirm that scene breaks and emphasis remain meaningful without print page furniture. EPUB pagination will vary by device; that is correct reflowable behavior.
How it was produced
The original plain-text fixture was parsed into Coverfairy's structured book model, composed with the production typesetter, written to PDF and EPUB, and checked through the same preflight path as an export. The files are generated by a committed build script so future engine changes can be compared against the same input.
