KDP cover dimensions by trim and page count

Look up calculated KDP paperback spine and full-wrap dimensions for seven common trim sizes, six page counts, and both white and cream paper.

What size should a KDP paperback cover be?The height is the trim height plus 0.25 inches. The width is two trim widths plus a paper-specific spine plus 0.25 inches. Coverfairy calculated every table below from that current KDP formula; the final KDP-generated template remains the production authority.

Formula and assumptions

White-paper spine = final page count × 0.002252 inches. Cream-paper spine = final page count × 0.0025 inches. Full width = back trim + spine + front trim + 0.25 inches. Full height = trim height + 0.25 inches. Pixel dimensions are rounded from the white-paper sheet at 300 DPI.

These tables assume a KDP paperback with black-and-white ink. Standard color uses the same spine multiplier as white paper but has a higher minimum page count; premium color uses a different multiplier. Use the calculator above for those configurations and for case-laminate hardcover.

Why the final interior comes first

The spine follows the typeset PDF, not the manuscript word count. A font, margin, image, or chapter-opening change can alter pagination and invalidate a previously calculated wrap. Coverfairy Interiors typesets the real pages and passes that final count to the matching cover project.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate KDP paperback cover dimensions?

For paperback, multiply the final page count by KDP's paper thickness to get the spine. Add two trim widths, the spine, and 0.25 inches of total outside bleed for the full width. Add 0.25 inches to the trim height for the full height.

Why do white and cream paper have different cover widths?

KDP's published multiplier is 0.002252 inches per page for black-and-white white paper and 0.0025 inches per page for cream paper. Cream therefore produces a slightly wider spine at the same page count.

Does page count change the ebook cover dimensions?

No. The tables describe print wraps. The Kindle ebook cover is a front-only portrait image; Amazon currently describes 2,560 × 1,600 pixels as ideal.

Can these dimensions replace KDP's cover template?

No. Use these calculated dimensions for planning and auditing, then compare the final PDF against the fresh template KDP generates for the exact title setup.
