Cream paper is thicker at 0.0025 inches per page, so the same page count produces a slightly wider sheet; premium color uses 0.002347. The ebook edition of a 6 × 9 book ignores all of this — it is a 2,560 × 1,600 pixel image. Always compare the exported PDF against KDP's freshly generated template before upload.
Front panel, paperback wrap, and hardcover are separate files
A 6 × 9 trim describes the cut size of one interior page and the visible front board or paperback panel. It does not describe a complete print-cover canvas. A paperback wrap adds an equally sized back panel, a page-count-dependent spine, and bleed around the outside. A case-laminate hardcover also adds hinge and wrap allowances supplied by its own template, while a dust jacket adds flaps. Build each edition from its current production template instead of resizing one flat image and assuming the geometry will follow. Keep artwork and type editable so a pagination correction can move the spine without degrading the cover. Before approval, inspect the cover at full size for safety and at thumbnail size for hierarchy, then order a physical proof to catch trim drift, weak contrast, and spine alignment that a screen cannot guarantee.
