A Previewer warning is a production clue, not an invitation to keep clicking until the upload passes. KDP checks structure that may not look wrong in a casual screen review, and its attempted resizing can change type and page geometry. The reliable fix starts in the source document and ends with a new export you can measure.

First confirm the upload settings match the file

Compare the chosen format, trim, bleed setting, ink, paper, reading direction, and cover type with the candidate PDF. A correct no-bleed 6 x 9 file still fails when the setup says another size. Record the exact page count and dimensions before changing anything so the repair can be verified rather than judged by appearance.

Fix trim and bleed at the document level

If the page box is wrong, change the source paper size and allow the manuscript to reflow. For an interior with bleed, use KDP's current enlarged page dimensions and extend only intended edge-to-edge images or backgrounds through the outer bleed. Keep text inside the live margin. Do not place a smaller book in the center of Letter paper or add crop marks to explain where it should be cut.

Find invisible margin offenders

Previewer can flag italic overhang, trailing spaces, hidden characters, text boxes, lines, or objects that cross a boundary even when the visible words appear safe. Turn on formatting marks, select suspicious lines, inspect anchored objects, and remove space-based alignment. Slightly increasing the designed margin can be wiser than building exactly to the minimum and fighting every glyph.

Resolve font, image, and blank-page problems

Confirm fonts are embedded and that every style variant used in text, tables, or imported graphics can embed. Inspect images at placed size and simplify transparency or layers where needed. Search blank pages for stray paragraphs, page breaks, or section behavior, but preserve intentional blanks required by recto starts. Every PDF page should be explainable.

Re-export, recheck, and update the cover

Create a newly named PDF, inspect its dimensions, page count, font list, thumbnails, and corrected pages, then upload it with the same recorded options. If the repair changes page count, regenerate the print cover from that new count before approval. Order a proof after Previewer passes; automated review cannot judge gutter comfort, paper, physical scale, or a subtly shifted cover fold.

Sources and verification
