Quick answerA KDP cover template is the complete print sheet — back cover, spine, and front cover plus outer bleed — sized from the trim, paper, binding, and final page count. Enter those inputs to generate the exact sheet, spine, and 300 DPI pixel dimensions with a downloadable SVG guide, then verify the finished PDF against KDP's own generated template.
How do you get a KDP cover template?
KDP produces an official template once a title's trim, ink and paper, binding, and page count are entered. This generator applies the same published geometry — for example, 0.002252 inches of spine per page on white paper and 0.125 inches of bleed on each outside edge — so you can build the working sheet immediately, keep designing while the interior is being formatted, and regenerate the template the moment the page count changes.
What does the template contain?
The SVG guide marks the back panel, spine, front panel, and outer bleed at exact size. Keep important type and faces inside the safe areas, reserve a clear barcode zone on the back panel, and leave the spine free of text below 80 pages; above that threshold, KDP asks for 0.0625 inches of clear space on each side of the spine text.
Why should you still check KDP's generated template?
The published formulas cover KDP's current standard configurations, but the template KDP generates for the exact title remains the production authority. Compare the exported PDF's page size, folds, bleed, and barcode clearance against it before upload. If you buy Coverfairy's Print export and an unchanged file is rejected over a dimension Coverfairy calculated, the technical spec guarantee applies.

What size is a KDP cover template?
Paperback width is two trim widths plus the calculated spine plus 0.25 inches of total outer bleed; height is trim height plus 0.25 inches. A 6 × 9 inch, 336-page white-paper paperback produces a 13.007 × 9.250 inch sheet.
Is this the same as KDP's official template?
No. KDP generates a title-specific template after you enter the book's setup. This generator uses KDP's published formulas so you can plan and design immediately, then verify the finished PDF against KDP's current generated template before upload.
Can I download the template file?
Yes. Download the SVG planning guide with the back panel, spine, front panel, and bleed marked, and regenerate it whenever the trim, paper, binding, or final page count changes.
